Cub Highlights 2023
Town Hall VisitThe Cub pack had a fantastic tour round the town hall and had the opportunity to meet the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead.

PancakesPancake making returned this year and was a roaring success judging by the cubs cooking and eating lots of pancakes.

Crazy GolfThe Cubs were divided into their sixes and challenged to make crazy golf holes. The holes were made from cardboard box, sheets of card. Once complete the cubs had the opportunity to try out the other sixes holes.

Cub Camp 2022
The Cubs camped 2 nights at Boidier Hurst Scout Campsite near Box Hill in May. The camp was the first for over 2 years due to the Pandemic. The programme had a wide range of activities ranging from wide games, fire lighting, den building, tracking, camp toffee apples, bread making, bread oven. We had more planned but decided to have a more relaxed camp where we picked activities from the list and played more wide games. .
Fire LightingThe cubs love lighting fires. They light fires on which to cook their lunch and for our camp fire.

Butter MakingWe all took part shaking the cream so that it split and made butter. The finished result was delicious.

Bread OvenThe motto is be prepared, but forgetting to pack glue meant a shopping trip and using flour and water.

Bird FeedersOn the 2nd December the Cubs made bird feeders to take home and hang up outside.

Spaghetti PioneeringThe 19th November saw the Cubs try pioneering with spaghetti, the structures were held together by marshmallows.

Cooking Badge - Fairy CakesThe cubs enjoy cooking evenings and on the 11th November they made and decorated fairy cakes.

Fathers DayWith Father's Day just round the corner the Cubs invited their Dad's to be a Cub for the night. The Dad's were put into their own Six and competed against the other Six's with a Marble Run Challenge.
The activity was very competitive, each team looking at each others designs for ideas. As you can see the Dad's design was very impressive and recorded the best ever time for Marble Run. We look forward to welcoming the Dad's back next Fathers Day. |
2nd July - Cooking
On the 2nd July the cubs met in the garden of one of our leaders. Working together in 3 groups the cubs used the wood available to build and then light fires. The cubs were then tasked with cooking their dinner of sausages, jacket potato and baked beans. All 3 groups worked well together sharing ideas about how to build their fires and what was needed to help the wood catch light.
10th June - Tent PitchingOn the 10th June the cubs had some practice tent pitching for the forthcoming camp in August. The cub did really well in pitching the tent; a great achievement as a lot hadn't been to camp before let alone pitched the tent.

20th May - Reigate Hill HikeAs part of work on the Navigator badge the cubs hiked from the hall up to the fort on Reigate Hill. On arrival at the fort the cubs had sweets and hot chocolate followed by a game of capture the flag.

6th May - Fire LightingOn the 6th May the cubs held their meeting in the garden of one of the leaders. The cubs built fires on which to toast marshmallows.

22nd/29th April - CatapultsThe cubs had a mini pioneering activity on Redhill Common. This included making catapults followed by their favourite game Capture The Flag.

Well done to the Cubs who earned their First Aid, Navigator, Animal Carer, Athletics and Great Indoors badges.

Ben Baldock made a teddy in the first lockdown, camped out in his garden and cooking.

Den BuildingThe meetings on the 25th September and 2nd October saw the Cubs make dens out of sticks. They were split into two groups each week and each made fantastic dens like the one shown above.

OrienteeringThe Cubs resumed their meetings with two weeks of orienteering. The cubs gained their Navigator Badge by taking part in the activities help on the 11th and 18th September.

Invasion of Roverdene
Sunday, 7th October saw Beaver, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, parents and leaders invade Roverdene Scout Camp Site for a day of fun. The day started with a treasure hunt, then collecting wood to build fire and cook lunch. The afternoon was busy with Rounders, canon races and a wide game - capture the flag finishing with a traditional camp fire with some new variations. An enjoyable day - relaxed and beautiful weather. |
Cub Camp - May 2018
Cubs spent the weekend camping at Boidierhurst Scout Camp Site. Activities included candle making, pioneering and water transportation. Saturday afternoon the cubs worked their way round an orienteering course that Graham had set up. The course was particularly devious with different correct answers for each team and two or three wrong answers on nearby trees. |
